Oct 21 - Dec 16 (no class Nov.25), 2011, Fridays 9:30- 12:30 Learn to become more comfortable with creating personal images and patterns from readily available sources. In this 8-week course students are introduced to basic cut paper mono-printing, foam stamped designs and block printing for use in collage compositions. Prints will be used as collage motif material or cut up for textural uses. Photomontage and over printing will be explored in combinations to produce richly layered and textured imagery. Using unique mark making with acrylics and gesso, students expand their own technique vocabulary. Students are encouraged to use varied substrates for 2-D and 3-D ideas. Each class includes time for discussion of process, group learning and individual project development.

In this class, put more feeling into your collages! Learn the
relationship between tactile and visual textures. Integrate the
impact of words / text/ typography with the intrigue of unique
textured surfaces. Inspire your collages using eclectic typography,
graffiti, free-style calligraphy, script and symbols. Create text with
stencils, rub-off letters, transparencies, transfers, computer fonts,
photocopies, Letter-stamping and more. Learn how acrylic mediums
produce a wide variety of surface textures with impasto, sand, gels
and molding pastes. Investigate motif and pattern in your designs.
You’ll take home new, multi-layered collage work infused with
vibrant color and textural black & white.

Mixed Media Collage is a vibrant and enticing medium well suited to
personal expression for artists at every level of self-discovery. This
studio art class provides creative exercises using all sorts of
techniques for developing fun and interesting mixed media collages,
including acrylic polymer transfers. Learn to combine materials and
build interesting background surface textures. Integrate text,
sketching and transfer images to create layers of meaning. Add
depth using combinations of paint, gesso, gel mediums and the use
of transparent materials. Projects include collage sketchbook as a
visual resource, color collage exercises, constructing and
deconstructing experiments, working a series and lots of tips about
adhesives!
